Corsetti Brothers Challenge

AMA District 36 round seventeen was promoted by the Stockton Motorcycle Club this night at the Argyle Park Racetrack in Dixon, California. The weather was very pleasant for this event and the Stockton MC did a good job with organization of the racing. The Stockton Motorcycle Club was established in 1924
And has held racing events nearly every year since then. They are a club of diversified riders with members in every avenue of racing. The Stockton Motorcycle Club has been the training ground for some riders who have reached the national level of racing. They also meet every Wednesday at 6:00 pm for a street bike ride.
Afternoon practice went as planned with all the riders looking for the groove and making the appropriate adjustments to their machinery. The track a banked oval with a hard packed surface, held together for the evening racing with the normal bumps and dips of a race track. The highlight of today’s racing included the Corsetti brothers, Mark and Scott. Mark has been a long time rider in District 36 earning the number one black plate more than once and placing in the top 6 of the open A riders for many years. Scott returned to flat track racing a few years ago and quickly became a top level contender in District 36 holding the number two black plate for 2007. The 2008 season has been very exciting for these brothers as their points are tallied very closely to each other. On this night they contested each other and split the wins. Mark won the heat race but it was Scott that took the main event to the checkers in front for the winning points. Riding this track like it is an easy thing to do these boys turned the fastest laps of the night.
In the women’s class Elizabeth Hocking was the queen. Hocking got out in front in the first lap and didn’t look back. However, Kimmie Valentine stayed on Hocking’s back tire through out most of the ten laps, coming along side her more than once to try to secure the pass. Hocking did not give an inch or make an error and led Valentine to the finish in front.
Another favorite event this season is the “Junkyard class”. The bikes can’t have more than $500 invested in them and there are handicaps given for starting positions. If you were victorious in the last contest you will find yourself staring in the back of the pack for the next one. This week Bud Riddle was placed the farthest back on the track, almost to the middle of the back straight for a starting position Eight riders started the race. Riddle worked his way through a couple in front of him to finish in the fifth place but Jeff Fernandez was the happiest rider of the night winning his first contest in many years. Josh Walls finished second followed by Randy Kremlecheck and Jacob Snyder.
