SALINAS, CA – OCTOBER 27, 2007
Central Coast Racing’s Steve Hall and his wife Kimm, celebrated their wedding anniversary last Saturday while overseeing and working the first race of his winter motocross series. Hall also a member of the Salinas Ramblers and the 40+ Vintage bike club in San Jose is not a new face to racing.
Monterey County’s Sheriff’s Posse Grounds came alive this year during the summer with an open traction Central Coast Racing TT series that ran from April – September. This series was the best attended District 36 series in the District in 2007. The Posse grounds was a popular place to race in the 1970’s providing the place to ride motorcycle scramble events. Until Central Coast Racing woke up this venue there has been no racing here since then.
The first winter Central Coast Racing series that began today is the only AMA District 36 sanctioned motocross series to be held and will run each of the six race dates rain or shine. Trophies are earned by the top three riders in each class. Participation trophies are awarded to each Pee Wee rider and the Pro Payback in the Open Pro is 150%. Coined with the phrase “What’s a hole shot worth” this series is awarding each moto hole shot winner with an additional prize. Sponsors for hole shot prizes for the first event included Blanco Easura Clothing, BST, Rockstar, Rocky Mourtain ATV, Factory Effex and more.
Over 120 riders came out to ride the Posse Grounds this Saturday morning to give the new track that included two sets of Whoops, a 70 foot table top, high banked burms and a 40 foot double jump a try. Riders with notable performances were Salinas own Cody Silva whose multiple intermediate class wins impressed the crowd with his speed and style. Silva has an overwhelming aggressive style that is giving local pros notice. 250 novice rider Jacob Olmos battled with CCR staff members Anton Aaroe and Ryan Chandley for the overall with Olmos securing top honors. Another close and impressive battle involved Travis Franklin, Kenny Jones and Aaroe in the Open Novice class. Franklin’s determination and consistency giving him the overall going 3-1 while Jones went 2-2 to finish second with Aaroe ending up third after winning the first moto and going 1-4 . CCR invited local Santa Cruz radio personalities from 103.9 The X, to race a grudge match on pitbikes. This was an insane race with plastic from machines being torn off and some brusied egos left on and off the track. Three DJs with little riding experience riding a moto track on pitbikes is now a crowd pleaser. First place went toTrish aka”The Sexy Sales Chick”.Second place honors “Intern Allison” last and least Nick the” Sports Guy” Tough to get beat by a girl eh Nick????

Checkered Flag Photos was born in 1999. I started shooting pictures of flat track racing with an old Olympus OM1 camera and gave those pictures to the riders at no charge during the 1999 season. In 2000 I got a small digital camera to compliment my old film camera and continued giving riders my shots for a small charge. In 2001 I got a better digital camera and some better lenses, started charging $10 for 8x10 photos, and so it goes. During the 2002 & 2003 seasons I had the privelege of photographing both the Sacramento and Del Mar miles in addition to lots of flat track and TT races around the state. In 2004 I shot the Cow Palace race along with many other venues and in 2005 I added some Supermotard races to my schedule. AHRMA Vintage motocross was a new venue for me in 2006. My 2007 plans include the San Jose Indoor event in April, the CVR Newman track, some AHRMA mototcross and supermotard. I am now using 2 professional quality digital cameras with some great lenses. The riders seem to like my work so I keep taking pictures.
